An another example of deadly remnant of Tython's mysterious past, the original purpose of the droids had been lost in the mists of time. Some speculated they were once guardians, programmed to protect the powerful secrets of Tython's original Jedi inhabitants. Others believed the droids were used for combat training by the order shortly after the creation of the first proto-lightsaber. A more sinister theory suggested the droids were somehow involved in the destruction of Kaleth itself. The truth was that, long ago, droids served and protected the ancient Jedi of Kaleth. This model was not as common as the basic guardian droid.
However, time had ravaged their bodies and corrupter their logical circuits, driving them insane and causing them to attack anyone they saw. For millennia, droids have been scavenging various weapons and equipment from those unfortunate enough to encounter them. During the Cold War, similar-looking droids were used by various organizations throughout the galaxy, but it was unclear if these droids were newly built or somehow brought from Tython and reprogrammed to serve their new masters.
After the end of the Great Galactic War the Jedi Order returned to their ancient homeworld and began to explore the planet, they encountered these ancient war machines roamed the ruins of the city of Kaleth armed with modern weapons and attacked anyone on sight. Many Jedi archaeologist were confused as to the purpose of the droids' unprovoked attacks. Jedi Master Till'in worked on uncovering their purpose as well as understanding the ancient technology that kept them running for several millennia, and asked a duo of Jedi Padawans to help with his mission.
